Lois B. Ryan

Lois B. RyanLois B. Ryan is an attorney with her own law firm in a suburb northwest of Chicago. She majored in English at Northwestern University, and obtained her Illinois Certification to teach at secondary level along with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1963. Mrs. Ryan also attended Northwestern University School of Law and was awarded her Juris Doctor Degree in 1966.

Mrs. Ryan’s practice focuses on closely held corporations, estate planning, family law, and real estate law. She frequently lectures on these topics as well as the subjects of women's issues and taxation. In addition, she was the author of a monthly article on legal issues written for Family Forum magazine for two years.

Lois Ryan has held several officer and committee positions within the Lake County Bar Association, and is a member of the following professional, service, social, civic or fraternal organizations:

  • St. Joseph's School Board (Past President)

  • Hawthorn School District #73, Past Member of the Long-Range Planning Committee
  • Carmel High School, Past Member of the Development Advisory Board
  • United Way of Lake County ? Past Chairperson of Communities Committee; Lawyers Committee
  • Women In Management-Lake Suburban Chapter, Charlotte Danstrom Award Winner, Secretary/Board of Directors 1995/96
  • American Women For International Understanding, 1996 to date, National Secretary and co-leader of a delegation of selected women leaders from the USA to Mongolia to meet with non governmental women's organizations there in July 2001. Objective is to build bridges of international understanding and cooperation between women leaders throughout the world.

In addition to being a founder of Leadership Illinois, she has continually remained on the Board of Directors or Advisory Board since its inception. She is also currently a speaker at one or more of the annual conferences.

Mrs. Ryan has received the following honors and awards:

  • Illinois Prairie Girl Scout Council, Inc.: Certificate of Achievement Award in the Legal Profession, 1985
  • Women in Management, Inc.: Outstanding Woman of Achievement in the Corporate Category, 1986
  • United Way of Lake County: Special Assistance Award, 1988
  • The Foundation for Women's Resources: Selected as one of 100 national women leaders in 1988 to participate in the Leadership America program to identify fresh approaches and insightful solutions to the economic, environmental, educational and social dilemmas in American society.
