Alumnae Demographics

Since 1988, Leadership Illinois has brought together a diverse group of accomplished women from all sectors of society, to educate, energize and enlighten, so that each can be a catalyst for positive change.

As of 2003, 256 women leaders completed the Leadership Illinois program. Participants are selected to create a class that reflects a diversity of ethnic and geographic factors, as well as political, career and volunteer experiences.

A 2003 inventory of alumnae race and ethnicity found:

  • 74% are caucasian
  • 21% are african-American
  • 5% are hispanic
  • 1 % are asian

Leadership Illinois alumnae reflect the rich diversity of Illinois’ business community:

  • 32% serve as Chief Executive Officer for their organization
  • 22% are employed with Fortune 1000 firms
  • 21% have taken a leadership role in or are employed by non- profit organizations
  • 12% have assumed a leadership role in educational institutions
  • 10% serve in local, state or federal government
  • 6% have assumed a leadership role in the finance, insurance, legal service and real estate sectors
  • 5% are employed by hospitals or health based organizations

Leadership Illinois will accept applications beginning November 1st of each year. Applications must include three letters of recommendation for consideration. The class will be selected by the Nominating Committee and approved by the Leadership Illinois Board of Directors at its March meeting. New class members will be notified by telephone shortly after that meeting. Upon Board approval, new class members must register for all three sessions.
