Norma Polcek Receives Small Business of the Year AwardNorma Polcek, LI 98, was recently recognized by the Rockford (IL) Chamber of Commerce as the Small Business of the Year. Polcek's business, Samco Sales and Marketing Co., was founded in 1984 in her home basement. Now, the business employs 8 people and runs out of a 3,0 00-square-foot building in Machesney Park, IL. Congratulations, Norma!
Shaliza Kline Ugaz is "Someone You Should Know"Shaliza Kline Ugaz, LI 08, was featured on Chicago's WLS in their "Someone You Should Know" segment. Headlined as "Teacher inspires inner city children," the ABC affiliate features an article on their website describing her role in teaching Latino children in Chicago to play traditional Latin American music through the Suzuki classical violin method. Leadership Illinois will accept applications beginning November 1st of each year. Applications must include three letters of recommendation for consideration. The class will be selected by the Nominating Committee and approved by the Leadership Illinois Board of Directors at its March meeting. New class members will be notified by telephone shortly after that meeting. Upon Board approval, new class members must register for all three sessions.
