"There really is a special place in hell for women who don't help each other."
Former Secretary of State, Madeleine Albright
"There are only angels in Leadership Illinois."
Leadership Illinois President Jerrie K. Weith, FHFMA
It is never too early or too late to contribute to the personal and professional development of our women leaders. Many, who come to us, as viable candidates do not have the financial resources to invest in their own future-even while they invest significant personal resources in their communities and organizations.
Over the years, a number of highly qualified female leaders have benefited from the generous contributions made by Leadership Illinois sponsors, alumnae and friends.
The following scholarships have been made available to past Leadership Illinois classes:
| The Florence Bear Picker Memorial Scholarship was established in honor of Florence Bear Picker, mother to Lenore Janecek (founder, Class of 1989 and director) and awarded annually to a leader in the non-profit sector. | |
| The Weith Family Leadership Fund was established in honor of Mel G. Weith, father-in-law to Jerrie K. Weith (Class of 1998, and past president). | |
| The Annabelle Swanfelt Scholarship was established in memory of Annabelle Swanfelt, mother to Lois Mills (Class of 1991 and Advisory Board Member) and grandmother to Mollie Cole (Class of 1994, past president, and Advisory Board Member). | |
| The Friends of Madeleine Sharko Scholarship was created in 2003 in support of Madeleine Sharko (Class of 2002, past president, and Advisory Board Member) and in recognition of her spirited battle against Guillian-Barre syndrome. Since recuperation, Sharko has directed her personal contributions to this scholarship. | |
| The Marigale Briggs Selfless Leadership Award was created in 2005 to honor the memory of a friend and alumnae Marigale Briggs (Class 1997). Established by a classmate, Laura Cornille-Cannady (Class of 1997, co-president) and supported by other friends this scholarship is used to honor a woman who has demonstrated true selflessness in her leadership. | |
| The Susan Lucia Annunzio Leadership Scholarship was created in 2005 by our 2005 annual meeting speaker and author Susan Lucia Annunzio. These scholarships are in the amount of $1,000.00 each and are to be used for the class of 2006 and 2007. | |
